The Mod Bumper was designed from the ground up to deliver class-leading off-road performance. We offer the best possible departure angle, ensuring the bumper doesn't hold you back when climbing steep rocky outcrops. At the same time, it is robust enough to withstand direct contact with those same rocks—whether by necessity or in the event of an accident.
Of course, it is a fact that most JKs spend a significant amount of time on the road, whether for daily driving or overlanding. Our goal was therefore to trim away unnecessary weight wherever possible, making the Mod Bumper one of the lightest on the market. After all, it’s a shame to lose lift height—achieved at great expense—simply because the bumper is unnecessarily heavy.
Lightweight but still as strong
The days when a rear bumper weighed 70 kg and required two people to install are officially over. The Falken Mod Bumper weighs just over half that, and the secret is, quite simply, Swedish steel. Sweden may not be the world’s largest steel producer, but we are world leaders in high-quality and strength steel.
The key behind this weight reduction is that we use a significantly stronger steel, S355/A50, than the majority of other manufacturers. By comparison, most of our competitors manufacture their bumpers using S235/A36 steel; some Chinese-made bumpers are even made of S185/A28. A difference that is most easily described by the fact that softer steels gouge and hangs up on rocks while S355 slides over.
This allows us to reduce the steel thickness from 6 mm to 4 mm while maintaining strength, which, combined with smart design, significantly reduces the weight.
Designed and manufactured in Sweden
Falkens Mod Bumper is a completely Swedish product, designed and manufactured by Swedish Jeep enthusiasts with thorough experiences in offroad and overlanding.
Our workshop is located outside Norrtälje, where we design our products using modern tools such as 3D scanners and CAD. Manufacturing then takes place in-house using a CNC-controlled plasma cutting table, a CNC-controlled 120-metric-ton press brake, a tube bender, and welding equipment.
Not only do you, as a customer, support small-scale EU manufacturing, but together we also make a significant difference for the environment. Our products haven’t traveled back and forth around the globe before being installed on your Jeep, and the steel is manufactured according to Swedish environmental standards.
Shackle Mounts
Cut from 20mm S355 sheet metal and welded to both the inside and outside of the bumper. When it comes to this particular part, we haven’t skimped on the steel’s thickness. After all, they need to withstand recovery situations that go beyond the ordinary.
That said, we’ve made every effort to create a solution that’s both stylish and practical. The holders are designed to accommodate both traditional steel shackles and modern soft shackles. All edges are rounded with a 2mm radius to protect the soft shackles and to ensure the powder coat lasts as long as possible. Practical, and an attention to design and finishing which few of our competitors rival..
Powder Coating
The Mod Bumper is painted with three coats of powder coat. First, a zinc-based primer that helps keep rust at bay for as long as possible even if you acquire scratches or blemishes. After the primer we complete the two layers of black textured paint creating a durable finnish.
Installation
In addition to appearance and off-road and on-road performance, a key focus of the design has been user-friendly installation. We’ve encountered far too many bumpers that require extra joints in the arms, mini-hands, or two people to lift them into place.
Falkens Mod Bumper is designed for easy installation using standard hand tools. All mounting points are easily accessible, and we use flag nuts and welded nuts wherever possible to make the process easier.
We’ve chosen not to provide an estimated installation time since everyone’s circumstances are different. But it’s worth noting that one of our prototype testers commented that it took longer and was more complicated to remove the original bumper than to install the Mod Bumper!
